Climate change and energy security are topics of growing concern with governments, companies and an ever increasing percentage of the global population. The environmental cost of growing societies will not be completely understood for decades to come, and yet new technologies are already reshaping the world as we know it. Wind power, hybrid cars, smart appliances and homes, and alternative fuels are all critical to the world of tomorrow. Let's demonstrate unprecedented solidarity and provide a visual global mandate that will put the heat on world leaders to strike a new global deal and to create a platform of support for action on climate change. The sum of our actions today can change history and secure the future of our planet. Amen!

I've once read a book on global warming called Heat. Right now I don't remember the authors name, but here is the point:
ReplyDeletePeople are not willing to change their ways because they don't want to give-up their luxurious ways of living.
I can't see anyone in, lets say, or MGMT 711 class driving a hydrogen car. Or waiting for the wind to blow to get electricity?!
In short, the environment is everyone "else's" problem.
and everyone "else" must take action on it.
Unfortunately, we spend as much as we earn. And consume whatever is available.
These are our habits.
We must change our habits.
But of course, technological improvements are crucial if you'd want me to drive a hydrogen car.
Thanks for adding to me knowledge.

Yasser
Yasser, Thanks for your feedback.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Environmental issues often seem too big and far-fetched like you said. However, there is plenty you can do when you bring this focus closer to home. (or at least you can start from there). The following below activities can really give you a boost at least interms of habitual tasks that can bring a significant impact.....
1.Properly dispose of all hazardous household materials, from cleansers to fluorescent tubes to paints.
2.Don't waste energy. Turn off lights when they're not in use. And, turn AC/Heat down when you're not at home
3.Don't waste water
4.Recycle your recyclables! From pop cans to newspapers.
5.Compost your kitchen scraps.
Above a just a few ideas that i think can make a difference. As far as making a hydrogen car for you, I can see we will have to face up to complex challenges....let's just start with you driving a Nano....and we'll go from there... ;)
